After a three-week run of Avengers at the top of the box office, we finally have a new champion—and his name is John Wick. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum exploded for a franchise-best $57M opening (nearly doubling 2017's Chapter 2 take of $30.4M). This makes it a lock to finish as the series' best total earner to date (needing only to top the $92M earned by the previous chapter). While previous Wick flicks have enjoyed incredible multipliers in the neighborhood of 3x, Parabellum will likely struggle to hold that well amongst Summer competition. However, with great word of mouth it should perform along the lines of standard popular blockbusters.
Slipping into second place in its fourth weekend, Avengers: Endgame earned another $29.4M to bring its grand total to $770.8M. That officially makes it the second-largest domestic earner of all time (surpassing Avatar's $760.5M). For the Summer season, Endgame has now earned $413.7M.
Down 54.4% in its second weekend, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu picked up $24.8M—good for a third place finish and a 10-day total of $94M.
Opening in fourth place, A Dog's Journey fetched $8M. That's a considerable decline from the $11.3 January's A Dog's Way Home earned, suggesting that perhaps these puppy pictures should spread themselves out more.
Rounding out the Top Five, The Hustle added $6.1M in its second weekend—down 53.3% for a new 10-day total of $23.1M.
