Disney's latest live-action remake is managing a solid Memorial Day weekend opening with Aladdin earning an estimated $86.1M three-day total (and a projected 4-day total of well over $100M). That's no showstopper of a number in blockbuster terms, but considering the poor internet buzz in the lead up to the premiere, Aladdin could have fared much worse on a holiday weekend that has been unpredictable at best. Aladdin registers as Disney's fourth-best live-action opening (behind The Jungle Book's $103.2M) and the best in director Guy Ritchie's career (topping the $62.3M from 2009's Sherlock Holmes).
Slipping into second place, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum bagged another $24.4M in its second weekend (down 57.1%). While that's the largest drop in the franchise, Parabellum has already become the highest grosser in the series with a current total of $100M (besting Chapter 2's $92M).
In third place, Avengers: Endgame added $16.8M to its gargantuan total in its fifth weekend. The super hero smash now sits at $798.2M total and $441M for the season.
Detective Pikachu picked up $13.3M (down 47% in its third weekend) for a fourth place finish and a new 17-day total of $116.1M.
Opening in fifth place, the super-hero/horror flick Brightburn brought in a mere $7.5M.
