After a seven year hiatus, the MIB series returned with a first-place premiere, but with just $30M in its opening weekend Men In Black: International will have a hard time getting out of the red. International is the first MIB film to open under $50M, as the summer if disappointing sequels continues.
Sliding into second place, Secret Life of Pets 2pawed its way to $24.4M in its second weekend (-47.7%) for a new 10-day total of $92.7M—which is still $12M behind what the original film opened to in 2016.
Third place went to Aladdin, which worked its magic for another $17.3M is fourth weekend (a drop of just 29.9%). Through 24 days the live-action musical has a total of $264M.
In fourth place, Rocketman racked up $9.4M in its third weekend (down 31.8%) to improve its total to $66.8 while fifth place went to Dark Phoenix, which crashed and burned in its second weekend with just $9.35M (a disastrous drop of 71.5%).
Opening outside the top five, Shaft stumbled to just $8.9M and a sixth place finish.
