About Us

Welcome to Box Office Champs! We’re a fantasy game for movie fans. Think you can spot a blockbuster, bomb, or sleeper hit before they hit the big screen? This is the game for you.

How to Play the Studio Game

It’s simple. Just create a team (which we call a studio) of 15 movies, sit back, and watch your team/studio score rise as they make money at the box office.

The studio with the most money at the end of the season is the winner!

Create a Studio

This part couldn’t be easier. Once you’ve signed up, just choose a name for you studio and get started picking movies.

Fun Suggestion

Have a favorite movie or actor/actress? Name your studio after that. Big fan of Jaws? How about “Bigger Boat Productions”? Does Zoolander split your side? Maybe something like "Blue Steel Studios" is for you. But any old name will do. It’s your call!

Picking Movies

The goal of the game is to pick the 15 movies that you think will make the most money, so you’ll want to target the potential hits, avoid the bombs, and hope to get lucky with a sleeper or two.

Helpful Tip

Beware movies that open towards the end of the season. Money they make after the end of the season won’t do your studio any good. Learn more about this in Seasons below.

Adding/Dropping Movies

Once the season begins you can still make a some changes to your studio roster, but there are a couple of ground rules to ensure competitive fairness:

  • Once a movie is released in theaters you cannot drop it. It is frozen on your roster.
  • You cannot add a movie to your roster that has already been released in theaters.

Why would you even want to drop a movie? A couple of reasons:

  • Sometimes movies change release dates and will no longer fall in the range of the current season. Learn more about Seasons below.
  • Sometimes movies just generate a lot of bad buzz before they open, and you might want to replace it with another option that has not yet been released.

Playing Against Friends

Box Office Champs pits every studio against each other every season, but if you are looking for a more personal experience amongst your friends, family, or coworkers no problem. You can create groups to compete and compare against only the individuals you want. Just give the group a name and invite them to join!

Groups: Inviting and Joining

To invite more members into an existing group, click the "Send Invite" link located at the bottom of the Groups section on your studio page. You can either send email invites to multiple people from the invite page, or copy the invite link and email it manually to your friends.

Good to Know

To join a group you must receive an invite from a current member of that group.

Upcoming Seasons

Seasons begin on Mondays and end on Sundays and span roughly three months. The next 12 months are split up as follows:

  • May 1, 2017 - July 30, 2017 (Summer)
  • July 31, 2017 - October 29, 2017 (Fall)
  • October 30, 2017 - January 28, 2018 (Winter)
  • January 29, 2018 - April 30, 2018 (Spring)

We’ll let you know in advance when new seasons are getting ready to start so you can assemble your studios in time.

Good to Know!

We tally your score based on these exact dates. Movies that span multiple seasons only count for the dates that fall within the current season.

Example: The movie The Circle opens on April 28, 2017.

  • If you pick The Circle for the 2017 Spring season your studio will benefit from all of the money it earns between April 28, 2017 and April 30, 2017
  • If you pick The Circle for the 2017 Summer season your studio will benefit from all of the money it earns between May 1, 2017 and July 30, 2017.
