Fall Weekend 9 Recap
Abominable Ascends to Top Spot

posted Sunday, September 29 @ 1:15 pm

The animated family adventure Abominable opened to $20.9M over the weekend—good for an easy first place finish at the box office. With solid reviews and audience response, Abominable should continue to perform well, but with The Addams Family opening in just two weeks, its long term prospects could be hindered a bit.

After an excellent first-place premiere last weekend, Downton Abbey dipped 53.3% in its second weekend with $14.5M. That give this TV-to-film hit an excellent total of $58.5M through 10 days which makes it the current No. 10 film for the season. It will need to improve its legs to maintain that position, however.

In third place, Hustlers continued its excellent run in weekend No. 3 with $11.5M. A drop of just 31.8%. Through 17 days the sleeper hit has amassed $80.6M and looks on its way to cracking $100M for the season.

Fourth place went to It: Chapter 2, which added $10.4M in its fourth weekend for a new total of $193.9M, while Ad Astra rounded out the Top Five with $10.1M in its second weekend (down 36.6%) for a new 10-day total of $35.5M.
