Summer Weekend 1 Recap
Endgame Far From Finished

After its unprecedented, record-breaking opening weekend, how Avengers: Endgame would fare in its follow up weekend was anybody's guess. How well could a film that opened to such amazing numbers possibly hold? The answer was almost another record. With $145.8M in its second weekend, Endgame logged the second-best second weekend at the box office—trailing only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($149.2M). While its 59.2% drop ranks on the lower end of the MCU franchise, it must be taken into account what an immense number the drop is based on. Already, Endgame ranks as the fourth-highest grossing film in the MCU (and should easily eclipse Black Panther for No. 1 by next weekend) and on the all time domestic chart it already ranks ninth. While it will likely need to improve its hold in coming weeks if it hopes toppleThe Force Awakens' all time domestic run of $936M, Endgame is still pacing ahead of it by $79M.

In the enormous wake of Endgame, counter programming fared rather poorly.

The thriller The Intruder debuted in second place with $11M, while the Charlize Theron / Seth Rogen comedy Long Shot settled for a third place opening of $10M. Arriving in fourth place, the animated family film Uglydolls grabbed 8.5M while the Top Five was rounded out by fellow MCU flick Captain Marvel—which picked up another $4.3M in its ninth weekend.
